Wheels painted!

After some intense masking, cutting and roughing, I finally finished prepping the wheels for their paint job. Came out a LOT better than I was expecting. Love how smooth the paint went on, especially coming from a spray can.

Wheels - Before and after

Here's the wheels as they were when I bought them and also now that they're back from the powdercoaters. I haven't painted the "gunmetal" centers of the wheels yet, but even the plain silver is a nice look.

Final Bodywork

The weather stripping rail under the trunk lid was rotted, so it was cut out and replaced with new steel. Aside from sandblasting the trunk lid itself, this marks the end of the bodywork. Here's some before and after's...

Seats refurbished!

I pulled out the seats and foolishly didn't take any "before" shots, but here they are with the new upholstery work. The driver's seat was pretty well trashed and some small woodland creature decided to use the foam to build a nest and as a result the seats have essentially been completely rebuilt.

Patch Panels

The "acne" has been removed and a new panel welded in place. Also, the small bit of steel that was missing from the drivers side behind the top has been replaced and tacked in. A bit more weld repair work is needed but will come shortly.

DAMN BONDO!!

The bondo covering the top of the quarter and what I'm calling the rear deck is hiding some awful corrosion issues. I'm not even sure how to describe this. It's pitting, surface corrosion and i guess the equivalent of metallic acne. more cutting and welding of patch panels to come...

Drivers side quarter skin's gotta go

Pretty thick coat of bondo on both sides. Used Jefferson to gauge the thickness...and that's in a relatively thin spot!

Passenger side primed and waiting for paint

Passenger quarter wraps up

patch panel

The rear deck (another bondo heavy spot) had to be cut away and replaced with a patch panel.

The real work begins

Here's a few shots of what's going on in the back end of the car. The old (botched) passenger quarter skin has been cut off and the new one I ordered has been tack welded in 1" sections along the line of the car. "Peanut butter" weld to follow.

Here's the car after a few weeks in the body shop. The front end is aligned, primed and block sanded. Once they get the back end straightened out it'll get primed and sanded once more before getting paint.

"Before" pictures of my LeMans

So here's the car in it's "before" condition. Panels are misaligned and multi-colored, there's no weather stripping on the windows (driver's window wasn't even installed) and the top is torn up. Lots of bondo covering a mess in the rear quarters too.

Site Startup

Hi everyone, I started this page to keep you up to date on the progress of my 1968 Pontiac LeMans project car. Things are just getting started so there's not much information yet. Just some pictures of the "before" condition of the car. I'll get them on here as soon as I figure out how.
